Windsor sees a steady flow of people on foot, and a fascia on Peascod Street or Thames Street is read at close range by a lot of them every day. That rewards proper letterforms and a good finish, and it punishes cheap fixings and uneven spacing. Most of what we fit here is flat cut metal or built-up letters with a modest return.
Everything is made at Marlow Bottom and installed by our own team. If the site needs a consent application, we can supply the drawings for it.
What we make
Older frontages take painted timber, render and stone, and each of those takes a different fixing behind the same letter. Newer units in the shopping areas usually have flat fascia panels and a simpler build up. We choose the material and the depth to suit the frontage, then make and finish the letters ourselves.

How we work in Windsor
Timing is the practical issue. The central streets get busy early and stay busy, so we keep the working area small. We fit Monday to Friday as standard, and fitting before opening can be arranged on request, at extra cost. Loading is checked at survey, along with the fascia build up and whether there is anything behind it worth avoiding.
Hotels and restaurants are fitted around service. We can work between sittings, or in the evening on request at extra cost, and we keep the noise concentrated into a short window. For lit letters, cable is run behind the fascia and the connection is agreed in advance with your electrician or ours.
Coverage
Windsor is about twenty minutes from the workshop, which makes small jobs and quick return visits practical. We cover the town, Eton and the surrounding villages, and travel further for clients with sites elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions
Not if it is done properly. We drill small pilot holes, fix with concealed studs, seal each hole and touch in the paint afterwards. Timber is more forgiving than stone. If the fascia is already soft or split we will tell you before fixing anything to it.
Usually. We can redraw a traditional typeface, match the depth of existing lettering and pick a finish that sits comfortably with the rest of the frontage. Gilded and hand painted effects can be reproduced in modern materials where the original method is not practical.
Lower than most people expect. A softly lit halo reads better on a narrow street than a bright face-lit sign, and it stays legible without overpowering the frontage. We set the output at commissioning and can adjust it after you have seen it at night.
Yes. Entrance lettering, reception logos, room numbering, directional signage and function room names can be made as one set in matching materials, so the interior does not look like a different supplier's work.
We take it down, remove the fixings, make good what we can and take the old sign away. If the fascia will need repainting afterwards we say so at survey, so it can be arranged before the new letters go up rather than after.
